“Before learning about any subject, everyone should know the history of that subject which will increase the interest in that subject.”

THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTIONS:

There are four industrial revolutions till date. Electronics comss under the 3rd industrial revolution.

The industrial revolution in Electronics started with the invention of vacuum tubes in the year 1940.

The below data shows the history of electronics and their year of inventions.

                                                    First Generation (1940 – 1956) – Vacuum Tubes

                                                     Second Generation (1956 – 1963) – Transistors

                                                Third Generation (1964 – 1971)–Integrated Circuits

                                                 Fourth Generation (1972 – 2010 )-Microprocessors

Fifth Generation (2010- now) – Artificial Intelligence

First Generation (1940 – 1956) – Vacuum Tubes:

It is a device that controls electric current flow in a high vacuum between electrodes to which an electric potential difference has been applied.

First computer build using vacuum tubes:

The above figure shows the first computer built with 1,800 square feet 18,000 vacuum tubes in 1940.

Second Generation (1956 – 1963) – Transistors:

Transistors are used to amplify electrical signals and in switching circuits.

Third Generation (1964 – 1971)–Integrated Circuits:

The integrated circuits are chips that are made of a large number of logic gates combined in them.

The Computer in the above figure is built using Integrated circuits.

 Fourth Generation (1972 – 2010 )-Microprocessors:

microprocessor is an electronic component that is used by a computer to do its work.

A microprocessor is a computer processor that incorporates the functions of a central processing unit on a single integrated circuit (IC), or sometimes up to 8 integrated circuits.

Fifth Generation (2010- now) – Artificial Intelligence:

Artificial Intelligence refers to the simulation of human intelligence in machines that are programmed to think like humans and mimic their actions. The term may also be applied to any machine that exhibits traits associated with a human mind such as learning and problem-solving.
